Private childcare by a childminder
If you enter into a contract with a private childminder, you can apply for a financial subsidy to pay part of your private childminder's salary as a parent. A private childminder can be authorised to take care of between 1 and 4 children. In a large private childcare scheme, a minimum of 10 children are cared for. The main language must be Danish.
Price
You have to negotiate the price with the childminder yourself. Part of the childminder's salary is subsidised by The City of Copenhagen.

How much subsidy will I get if the childcare is not for a full month?
The City of Copenhagen calculates the amount of the subsidy. The subsidy is determined according to the number of calendar days in the month in question.
Example
You receive a subsidy of DKK 7,351 per month. The payment to the private childminder, however, is only for 20 days in the month of April, which has 30 calendar days.
The calculation will then be like this: 7,351/30x20 = DKK 4,901 in subsidy for 20 days. If the total payment is DKK 10,924 per month, the calculation looks like this: 10,924/30x20 = DKK 7,283 per month for childcare for 20 days.
Am I eligible for income-based subsidy?
No, it is not possible to get income-based subsidy for private childcare.
Am I eligible for sibling allowance?
Yes, you can get sibling allowance in pivate childcare. If you have more than one child in a municipal daycare or in private childcare, you will automatically receive sibling allowance.
You pay full price for the most expensive place and receive a sibling allowance for the other place. Sibling allowance amounts to 50% when the cheapest place is a municipal daycare.
When the cheapest place is a private childcare arrangement, you receive a sibling allowance that corresponds to 42.5% of the price of an age-appropriate day care without food.
However, you cannot get sibling allowance if you have a child who attends a private leisure institution.
What is a large private childcare scheme?
It is a private childcare arrangement with a minimum of 10 children who are looked after in buisness premises where there is a pedagogical manager.
The large private childcare scheme must be organized so it promotes children's learning through safe educational learning environments.
The parents enter into a contract with the large private childcare scheme and not with the individual private childminder.
How to use a private childminder
- To use private childcare by a childminder, you must first find a private childminder. If the childminder is new, he/she must create a profile on our digital platform.
- You and the childminder must then complete a digital contract, which has to be approved by the City of Copenhagen.
- You must submit digital receipts each month in order to receive subsidies.
-
When the private childcare ends, you must fill in a termination form in order to inform the municipality and terminate your subsidy.
