Public childcare
Both you and your child need to have a CPR number and a registered address in Copenhagen when you apply for public childcare offers. The childcare offer you choose depends on the age of your child.
As there is usually a waiting list for public childcare, remember to sign up for childcare offers before your child turns 4 months old. However, the childminding guarantee in Copenhagen ensures that your child will receive a place within 2 months of signing up on the guarantee list.
There will be activities supporting the child's development in all childcare offers.
1. Nursery and day care (Vuggestue og dagpleje), 6 months to 2 years and 10 months old
When your child is aged between 6 months to 2 years and 10 months, he or she can be cared for in a nursery or in a day care run by a dagplejer who is a municipal employee.
Nursery
A nursery looks after larger groups of children (60-96 children per nursery, 12 children and 3 adults per room).
Communal dagplejer
A dagplejer looks after 4 or 5 children in his or her own home.
2. Kindergarten (Børnehave), 2 years and 10 months to 5 years old
When your child is aged between 2 years and 10 months to 5 years old, he or she can be cared for in a kindergarten.
