Price
The cost of a childcare in a private institution varies. The individual institutions set their own price and receive payment from parents directly. Contact the specific private institution to learn about their costs.
Subsidy
You can apply for an income-based childcare subsidy. If you have more than one child, you are automatically entitled to a sibling discount. Contact the private institution to find out what they charge.
Waiting list
Private childcare institutions have their own waiting lists. You must contact a private childcare institution directly in order to have your child added to their waiting list. If you accept a place in a private institution, your child will be taken off the waiting list for a place in public childcare.

What happens if my child gets a place in a private institution?
If you accept a place for your child in a private institution located in The City of Copenhagen, Pladsanvisningen deletes your child from the municipal waiting lists for day nursery, public childminding and kindergarten.
Should Danish be the main language in a private institution?
Yes, the main language in private institutions must basically be Danish in accordance with the Day Care Act. However, the City of Copenhagen has decided that the main language in a private institution can be English, German or French, if it is estimated after a concrete assessment that this does not lead to integration problems. The private institution must make a concrete assessment as to whether there will be consequences for the specific child attending the institution when they enroll a new child.
How do I withdraw my child from a private institution?
It is the individual private institution that determines their termination notice and they must inform you of this. You must therefore agree with the individual institution how to withdraw your child. If your child goes to a private nursery and is on the waiting list for a private kindergarten, your child will be offered a place when your child reaches kindergarten age.
Can you get sibling allowance?
If you have more than one child in daycare, nursery, kindergarten, leisure institution (KKFO), private institution or private childcare, you automatically receive sibling allowance. You pay full price for the most expensive place and half price for the other place. There is no sibling discount, if you have a child in a club or a private leisure institution. If you have joint custody, but do not live together, the children are considered siblings of the parent where they are registered in the Civil Registration Office (Folkeregistret). It is therefore the Civil Registration Office address that determines whether the children can get a discount as siblings, regardless of whether the children live equally with both parents or not.
