Clearing snow on your property

As a property owner, it is important for you to clear snow so that you will not be liable for damages in the event of an accident.

If you live on a public road, you are required to clear snow and put down salt or grit outside your property.

If you live on a private road, you are required to clear snow and put down salt or grit on the pavement and road outside your property. You are required to clear the snow up till the middle of the road, while your neighbour opposite is responsible for clearing the other half of the road.

How to clear snow and put down salt or grit

• Clear the full width of the pavement outside your property (min. 1.5 metres)
• Sprinkle the area with salt or grit, be careful to avoid trees and plants
• Please clear snow so that it does not obstruct pedestrians, cyclists and bus passengers. Make sure there is clear access to fire hydrants, emergency installations, etc.
• Clear a path through banks of snow, including any created by municipal snow clearers

You should keep the pavement outside your property clear of snow from 07:00 to 22:00.
