Claim a refund of your wedding fee

Due to a regrettable incorrect practice in the period from 2018 to 2025, the City of Copenhagen (Københavns Kommune) charged unjustified fees for certain types of wedding ceremonies. Therefore, we will refund any fees that were wrongly charged.

If you were married at one of the following types of weddings in the City of Copenhagen in the period from 2018 to 2025, and you paid a fee for your ceremony, you are entitled to a full or partial refund:

  • Book a (private) registrar
  • Open-air wedding
  • Wedding outside of the normal wedding hours (“I do now”)

You will receive an e-mail from the City of Copenhagen regarding the refund process

The City of Copenhagen will start contacting all affected couples in 2026, and the process is expected to continue throughout 2027.

Agency of Family Law fees are non-refundable

Please note that this right to a refund does not relate to any fee you may have paid to the Agency of Family Law (Familieretshuset) to obtain a certificate of marital status in Denmark.
