Childcare guarantee

You can choose to add your child to the guaranteed list to ensure that your child receives a place in a nursery or with a public childminder within 2 months.  

If you are moving to Copenhagen with a child older than 3 years, the childcare guarantee will automatically apply. Your child is guaranteed a place in a kindergarten located a maximum of 4 kilometres from your residence and within 3 months from the date you registered your address with Folkeregisteret (the Danish National Registration Office).

Both you and your child must have a CPR number and a registered address in Copenhagen when you apply for public childcare. Your choice of childcare will depend on the age of your child.

Adding your child to the guaranteed list

Your child can be signed up on one specific waiting list and the guaranteed list at the same time. If you have signed up your child on the waiting lists of two specific childcare places, you must replace one of them with the guaranteed list.

If your child is currently in private childcare, your child’s name can be placed on the guaranteed list. To sign up your child on the guaranteed list, or for more details, please contact Pladsanvisningen (the placement service) using the information in the contact box below.

If you accept a guaranteed place

If you accept an offer from the guaranteed list for your child, your child will still be signed up on the specific waiting list.

If you decline a guaranteed place

If you decline a place from the guaranteed list, your child’s name will be taken off the guaranteed list. Your child will still be signed up on the specific waiting list and is eligible to be signed up on one additional specific waiting list.
