Guidance

Residents who are registered with the Danish national register in the Pay & Display Zone can purchase a residents permit.

You can also obtain a residents permit:

  • for a rented or leased car provided that the tenancy or lease has been made with an authorised rental firm. The lease or tenancy agreement must be produced.
  • if you have a company car which is rented / leased and is used privately. The requires that the employer states in writing that you are the vehicle’s only user, and that the tenancy or lease has been made with an authorised rental firm. Borgerservice Indre By will inform the Central Customs and Tax Administration that you have a company car.
  • if you have borrowed a car - please note that this is not an option if the car is registered abroad.

The residents permit is issued for a year, starting at the date of issue - except for car borrowed.

Parking permit validity

A parking permit allows you to park in a defined area near your home.

Your permit has an area code. Eg. if you live on Østerbro it is ÅP, FP or RA, if you live in the centre of Copenhagen near Kastellet, it is KA. Read more about in the street and road index (only available in Danish).

However, in some parking zones, a permit does not exempt you from having to have a Pay & Display tickets ie. in certain streets and shopping areas Monday-Friday 10.00-17.00 hrs.

This is to make it easier to find somewhere to park near the shops and applies especially in the Red Zone in the city centre.

Check street and road index to see the streets where this applies.

Other issues

The permit does not exempt you from obeying any local parking restrictions such as time- or other parking restrictions, when these are marked by means of signboards or markings.

The maximum total weight allowed for vehicles is 3.500 kg.

In order for the permit to be valid it must be placed visible in the windscreen, or in one of the front doors’ windows. We recommend that it be placed in the windscreen for maximum visibility.

If you wish to make changes an administration charge of DKK 100 is payable. You must return the old permit.

If the household has several cars, it can purchase as many permits as the household has residents over the age of 18.

If the rules stated above are not obeyed or are misused, Borgerservice Indre By may revoke the permit and refrain from issuing another.
