Your child can be looked after in a nursery (vuggestue) or a day care run by a child-minder (dagpleje) if the child is aged between 6 months and 2 years and 10 months. Your child can be looked after in a kindergarten (børnehave) if the child is aged between 2 years and 10 months and 5 years.
If your child is aged between six and nine years it and is going to a state school (folkeskole) it can be looked after in an after-school centre (fritidsinstitutioner) or a school care (SFO) before and after school hours.
For children between the age of 6-16 education is mandatory. In Denmark it is possible to receive education at state schools (folkeskolen) free of charge or at private schools, which cost a monthly fee. Learn more about the Danish school system here.
