What are the requirements for enrolment in a Danish school?

In Denmark education is mandatory for children between the ages of 6 and 16.

Children between the age of 6 to 16 living in Copenhagen can attend the city’s public schools (Folkeskole). It is free to attend public schools but there are also private alternatives all around Copenhagen. It costs a fee to attend private schools.

During the year before your child turns 6, you as parents will automatically receive a letter from the school in your district asking you to enrol your child in pre-school.
