How do I register my newborn for a CPR number?

The CPR number is used for registration and personal identification.

The CPR number is used in connection with salary payments, housing purchases, bank transactions, insurance etc.

  • If you give birth in a Danish hospital, a temporary CPR number for your child is issued right after the birth. You still have to apply for a residence permit for your child in order to register him or her formally.
  • If you arrive in Denmark with a newborn child, you must apply for a CPR number.
