You can apply for a bank account at one of the banks in Copenhagen. As a customer of any bank you will also get access to online banking.

How do I get a bank account?

If you wish to open a bank account at a bank in Copenhagen, you need to bring a photo ID and proof of your CPR number and your address. It is the bank that opens the account for you. In order to open a bank account, you have to bring these things with you to the bank:

  • Health insurance card (the yellow card) with your CPR number
  • Passport/ID card with photo
  • Proof of address, for example the lease for your apartment or your Health Insurance Card
  • It is also a good idea to bring your contract of employment if you have one.

What is the 'Dankort'?

Dankort is a payment card that can only be used in Denmark. It is a debit card that is linked to one of your accounts. You can get a Dankort when you open an account in a bank. Talk to your bank about which type of card you need. You can use a Dankort almost everywhere in Denmark.

What is a NemKonto (Easy Account)?

A NemKonto (Easy Account) is one of your already existing bank accounts that public authorities can pay money into. You can choose which one of your ordinary bank accounts you want to be your NemKonto.

Everybody in Denmark must have a NemKonto. Most residents in Denmark receive occasional payments of some kind from public authorities, and it is therefore useful and time-saving to have a NemKonto in order for the public authorities to transfer money directly into your bank account.

If you do not have a NemKonto, you must contact your bank. If you do not have a Danish bank account and wish to assign a foreign bank account as your NemKonto you can use this registration form and send it to NemKonto Support. It can take several weeks for it to be registered.

How do I apply for a loan in Denmark?

If you wish to take out a loan, you have to contact your bank. It is your bank that decides whether you can get a loan. The most important factor, if you want to take out a loan, is that you have a regular income.
