Organic waste can be collected in packaging or without. You need to make an agreement with the company that collects your waste how you should sort your organic waste (packaged organic waste or unpackaged). Ask specifically for packaged or unpackaged organic waste if you have a preference.
Materials of plant and animal origin, mainly from the sale, preparation and production of food, such as food residue, discarded food products, cut-offs from meat products, etc.
May not contain
Wood, soil and paper.
To ensure that you do not cause unpleasant smell or unhygienic conditions you must make sure that the waste is collected at least once a week, and that waste bins are properly cleaned after each discharge.
Disposer for organic waste
As a company, you have the option of installing a disposer for shredding of organic waste. The shredded organic waste must not be discharged into the sewer, but should be kept to a collection tank and delivered recycled.
On disposers, where the liquid is pressed out and discharged into the sewer, the liquid must pass through a fat separator before being discharged into the sewer. You need permission from “Center for Bygninger” before you install a fat separator. You have to apply online for "Tilslutning af spildevand til kloak" at Byg og Miljø (www.bygogmiljoe.dk (in Danish)).
It is possible to compost smaller quantities of vegetable waste from your own production. Composting must take place in a container that is protected from rats and other pests. The container must be placed in the open air at least five meters from windows of living spaces or kitchens. If the finished compost is used on the company's own ground, you don’t have to sample the compost.
Before you start composting you must notify the department “Jord og Affald” of The City of Copenhagen. Send an email to email@example.com with the following information and you will be contacted.
- The name of the person who are responsible for the daily running
- Type of container
- What will be composted
- The name and address of the company and a signature
