What is the procedure to start a business in Copenhagen?
Starting a business
Before you start a business, basically you have to:
- Know if you have the right to open a business with your work permit. If you are not a EU citizens you have to contact Ny i Danmark, if you are an EU citizen contact Statsforvaltningen. Read more at How do I apply for a work permit?
- Be sure that you have the finance and enough customers to open a business (eventually write a business plan and budgets). See Where can I get help to write a business plan? and Can I get any financial help while starting a business? Some companies do not need considerable financing in the beginning, for example knowledge entrepreneurs and consultants. It is a good idea to analyse the business idea before you register, so you can find out what the market is like and what the competition is.
When you are ready to start your business:
- Register your company at virk.dk. It is easy to register a company, even though the website is in Danish. You just have to press the orange button that says ‘start’ and log on with NemID.
When you have registered your company, you get a CVR number.
The difficult part is to get the good idea, to create a network and to find a customer segment. Business House Copenhagen can help you with all this.
