How do I recycle bottles?

You can either recycle your bottles in a bottle container, in a waste container for plastics, or in a bottle machine in a supermarket.

You dispose of different bottles in different ways:

  • Glass bottles without deposit goes in a glass container that you can find many places in the city (bring banks).
  • Glass bottles with deposit go in a bottle machine in a supermarket or a grocery shop.
  • Plastic bottles without deposit goes in a container for rigid plastic. See What to do with my waste?
  • Plastic bottles with deposit go in a bottle machine in a supermarket or a grocery shop.
  • Cans with deposit go in a bottle machine in a supermarket or a grocery shop.
  • Cans without deposit goes in the container for metal. See What to do with my waste?

Deposit-refund

There is deposit on many bottles and cans. This means that you pay between DKK 1 and 3 extra for the bottle or can, and you get this money back when you return it in a bottle machine (a reverse vending machine).

You find bottle machines in most supermarkets or grocery shops. In some kiosks you can return bottles as well.

Here you can see a map of glass containers and recycling stations at the City of Copenhagen's website.
