In Copenhagen there are good opportunities for using the urban space as a serving area. However, it is important that this happens with respect for both neighbours and other users of the urban space, and in some places conditions are such that outdoor seating is not possible.
It is important that we help each other making a nice overall impression of the city, that we make sure the streets are passable and show consideration for the residents. Therefore we have some rules and guidelines that must be observed.
The City of Copenhagen emphasize that you consider:
- Wheel chairs
- Prams and pushchairs
- The visually impaired
- Parking of bicycles
- The architecture of the area
- The social and architectural distinctiveness
- The neighbours
- Closing hours
- That it is easy keep the city clean, clear snow, etc.
Before you put anything out, you have to apply for outdoor seating, and the outdoor seating is first legal once you have the permit from the City of Copenhagen. The City of Copenhagen has to approve furnishing and umbrellas.
There are set rules for the appearance of these items.
A copy of the permit and a drawing must be available in the restaurant and should be presented to inspectors.
